Monetization methods within a videogame?

Monetization models can encompass selling the game, offering in-game purchases, or using ads.

Selling the Game
: Players purchase the game upfront, giving them full access to all its content from the beginning. Example: Buying a copy of "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" for the Nintendo Switch.

In-Game Purchases (Microtransactions): Offering virtual goods, cosmetics, or in-game currency for sale within the game. Example: Buying V-Bucks in Fortnite to purchase skins and emotes.

DLCs (Downloadable Content): Expansions or additional content packs that players can buy to extend the game's story or features. Example: Purchasing "The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone" expansion pack.

Season Passes: A package deal that grants access to multiple DLCs or content releases for a set price. Example: Buying the "Destiny 2: Beyond Light + Season Pass" bundle.

Subscription Models: Offering a monthly or yearly subscription for premium content, early access, or other perks. Example: Subscribing to Xbox Game Pass for access to a library of games.

Free-to-Play with Ads: Offering the game for free but displaying advertisements during gameplay. Example: Mobile games with banner ads or video ads between levels.

Loot Boxes/Gacha Systems: Players spend real or in-game currency to obtain randomized virtual items. Example: Opening loot boxes in Overwatch to get skins and emotes.

Cosmetic Skins and Customization: Selling purely cosmetic items like character skins, weapon skins, or emotes that don't affect gameplay. Example: Purchasing character skins in League of Legends.

Pay-to-Win (Cautionary): Selling items or advantages that can significantly impact gameplay, potentially creating an unbalanced experience. Example: Buying powerful weapons in a multiplayer shooter.

Crowdfunding/Early Access: Players can support the development of the game by contributing money in exchange for early access or exclusive rewards. Example: Backing a game on Kickstarter and receiving a digital copy upon release.
